Top Attractions in South Newton

Welcome to our third entry in our series on things to do in Newton County.

Thus far we’ve covered what both the Northern and Eastern areas have to offer. Today, we’ll be looking at the top attractions in South Newton, and the fun time they promise.

For all of our history buffs out there, South Newton offers some great, hands-on experiences.

It’s home to several Civil War focused affairs and re-enactments. Take a step back into yesteryear, and get a firsthand look at the nuances that made that time period so unique. And that’s only the start of worthwhile attractions in South Newton.

What South Newton Has to Offer

A big draw for the southernmost region of Newton County is that it’s home to the area’s most popular city. Covington has a history that dates back a legitimate 200 years. Want to hear a fun fact? The city’s birth came after the county procured it for a couple thousand dollars. While inflation would make that figure exponentially greater in modern times, it’s still an interesting thought.

For those of us who are fans of walking trails, South Newton offers this as well. Check out Turner Lake Park when you have some time. Their trails allow for a leisurely stroll, or more intensive physical activity, whichever piques your interest more.
